Why do I have a small collection of art created by 6 year olds?

One can create a masterpiece of painting, sculpture, photography, ECT. And somewhere on the planet there is a craftsman that can copy the work so closely that it will thought to be the original. (If you are that talented why are you working as a forger=$$$ yes we get that)

There are reproductions of originals that sell for pennies and look marvelous over your sofa. We get that you bought a $200 couch and a $50 print that looks like a million dollars: a decorating decision.

But that work will never have a soul or love (insert your own term). When you acquire an original work you will see the artist hand at work. You will see the layers of decision making, mistakes that consciously were kept ,the process of mixing JUST the correct blue, you will be communicating with the labor and sweat put into the work.
As a comparison it will be like having the artist to your home for coffee and realize she dunk’s her cookies in coffee as opposed to having lengthy conversations on social media.

The reproduction you purchased is not much different then the wall color you chose for the room. Having worked hours as an interior decorator and the thought process is the same. The art work for a room is the last line item on the budget. This person is not choosing a work of art they are buying home decor.

But if you want that fabulous $50.00 print to ever exist you have to support original artists. Both good and bad original art is a work of love and passion. Buy or trade but start to become a collector.
