PAY DAY

As artist we are forever writing the endless artist statement.

Till eventually ones practice become mature enough that you can attempt to write one general artist statement accompanied by individual statements relating to each series.

Yet sometimes it is beneficial to discuss just one work.

“PAYDAY”

Diptych 8×20

Photographs adhered to layered wood.

In this piece I have removed the majority of the text relying on the title and the visual to tell you the story.

I have mentioned before the majority of the models are either myself or dolls.

I am not personally affected by every story I narrate yet by interjecting my body into the works I am viscerally assuming the roll of the storyteller. My use of doll faces removes me from the story leaving an uneasy response to the persona. Masks and dolls (artificial faces) have held a life time fascination for me which corresponds to evaluating the intent and sincerity of  faces we encounter.
